Take That – O2 Arena, 5 June 2015

On 5 June 2015, my partner and I took the long journey to the O2 Arena in London to watch Take That. The tickets I had bought were a gift for my girlfriend’s 40th birthday – the perfect gift with her being a huge fan of the now three-piece band.

I knew that I would enjoy the gig – most gigs have redeeming features, even the gigs for bands or musicians you aren’t a huge fan of – to my surprise, though, I found that the gig was very good. I’d rate it a 7 out of 10. Good solid music (though, again, not entirely to my tastes), surprisingly good performances from the three remaining band members (Messrs Barlow, Owen and Donald), a fantastic set and a unique overall production added up to a great night in London.

The band performed all the old classics, as well as a bunch of songs from their new album, III. Some great stage craft, pyrotechnics, capable dancers and performers. And even a gymnast locked inside a fiery, spinning ball, representing the sun! Even if you didn’t enjoy the music, there was always somewhere to look, something to marvel at.

And on top of all that, the band seem to be a bunch of really nice lads. Earnest, professional, happy and funny, too. I couldn’t help but like them.

My girlfriend was thrilled, and that’s what mattered most. A special night, a special birthday, for a special lady.
