A Long Line of Winners

Today, I read a nice Evolution FAQ over at Quora.com (one of my favourite websites and a definite recommendation). It is a great little read, filled with – as you would expect of an FAQ – answers to many common questions the layperson might wonder about.

In particular I loved the last FAQ:

It means that you are descended from a long line of winners. Every ancestor, all the way back through early mammals, fish, and single-cell organisms, for close to 4 billion years, lived long enough to reproduce before being eaten or killed. That’s a great heritage.
