The Beginning

What a day of mixed emotions. Two important events in my life happened today. The first was a very sad, personal event, one I won’t go into on this blog. Only to say that I did what I felt I had to do and at least I know now the outcome and can finally begin to get my head straight. It may take a while. I accepted what I learned with love and kindness towards the person in question. I wish them all the best, especially as this person is going through a very very hard time at the moment....

Another Song

On Monday evening I was messing around with my guitar and another song appeared. It seems the songs I’m writing at the moment are all about the same subject – love and heartbreak – which isn’t a surprise because a lot of songs generally are about that. I now have four songs in the pipeline. The first, “Miles Apart”, is finished and ready to be put out there for all to listen to once the other three are done. The other three, which have provisional titles at the moment (so I shan’t reveal them just yet), all have a...

DNA test to help Grace

In late March I am going to Bristol to have bloods taken in the hope of helping my eldest daughter, Grace. Doctors have asked for blood samples from me and Grace’s mum, which they will use to perform a ‘deeper’ DNA test on to see if there’s something that can be done to treat Grace’s ‘absences’ more effectively. I have my fingers...

New Car

Forgot to mention – as of last Thursday I have a new car. New as in brand new. A Dacia Sandero Ambiance TCe90. It’s a small car, but has a pretty large boot and is perfect for me and my needs. Hopefully this new car will also be followed, this year, by a new home. The hunt for my new home has...

2 New Songs

For the last couple of weeks I have been working on a song – inspired by something surprising I saw online. I won’t say too much more about it until it’s released. Last night, though, as I worked on that song, another idea came to mind and now there are 2 songs on the go! That’s good, because I always intended to produce another two songs to release alongside my finished track “Miles Apart.” The plan is to eventually create an album. I have an album title in mind, one which I have had for over 20 years, and I will...

Production of Song

I wrote a song last year – the first one for 20 years, in fact. But it lay fallow for 10 months or so while I was busy with other parts of my life. I’ve recently revisited this new track and begun the process of producing it via GarageBand on my iMac. It’s going well. The track – titled “Miles Apart” is a very personal song, which was originally written and conceived as an acoustic guitar based track. But since getting it onto a computer “Miles Apart” has transformed into something else entirely. It has the same lyrics and...

2 Years of Songs: No 21 – “Perfect Heaven Space”

“Perfect Heaven Space” The Boy With No Name, Travis “Perfect Heaven Space,” another track from Travis, came along in the same way as the others – discovered during the last year’s free trial of Apple Music. I really like the piano arrangement and the sentiment of the song. In my perfect heaven space there’s a picture of you. To think of all the time I’ve wasted not looking at you. I can find no official video, so this YouTube video will do. It’s a mysterious song – I’m not sure what it’s about. But it’s lovely to hear unexpectedly mid-playlist – which it has many times over the past 6 months or...

Closer At Boomerang

I’m sat in Boomerang in Melksham watching my girls enjoy a party… on comes the song “Closer”, one of my songs of the last 2 years. A lovely coincidence. I have happy memories of Boomerang. Today is no exception. The children are having a wonderful time. Seeing them enjoy themselves so much makes me feel a little better...

2 Years of Songs: No 20 – “Be My Downfall”

“Be My Downfall”Change Everything, Del Amitri This song doesn’t just encapsulate a lot of the last 2 years of my life, it also has been there – like many Dels songs – every day since 1992. A great track from an excellent album, Change Everything. It’s a staple of my playlists. And, of course, lyrically it seems pertinent. This live version is incredible, especially the way Justin Currie weaves in an entirely different song – “Drowned On Dry Land” – into the middle of it....

The Future’s Not Set

I stole a line from Terminator 2 for the title of this post because it’s apt – I’m writing about the future. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. But the truth is that no amount of thinking can change what’s going to come. Only action can do that – and even then only to a degree. I really don’t know where my life is headed, or in which direction fate will take me. I guess I should remember another part from that Terminator 2 quote: “There’s no fate but what we make for ourselves.” That’s true in...
